I'm just soooo tired about everybody and their brother complaining about that China vs. Tibet issue.

For one, they're on the other side of the globe. It's their land and their own affairs. It's not anybody else's business, for that matter. At least it's definitely not mine. And after all, why such selectiveness? Why nobody's complaining about, like, USA vs. Texas? Great Britain vs. Scotland? "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"

And besides, all that "independence" thing is, honestly, utter crap. From what I see, the only reason behind any claims for "independence" is to stir up some poor people and get yet another gang of bloody greedy politicians to raise to power on the shoulders and blood of the said people. Not in my name, thankyouverymuch. I don't care about ANY kind of "independence" as long as me (and my friends) are not being threatened in my home and on my property (and if somebody tries to threaten me there, they'd better be prepared to leave my property in a body bag). I don't need any other bloody "independence".

And you crying for Tibet, you better stop, turn around and fix the rampaging idiocy and stop using Constitution as a throwrug in your own home.

Thank you for listening. :/

Today's piece of wisdom

"It has been pretended by some, (and in England especially,) that inventors have a natural and exclusive right to their inventions, and not merely for their own lives, but inheritable to their heirs. But while it is a moot question whether the origin of any kind of property is derived from nature at all, it would be singular to admit a natural and even an hereditary right to inventors. It is agreed by those who have seriously considered the subject, that no individual has, of natural right, a separate property in an acre of land, for instance. By an universal law, indeed, whatever, whether fixed or movable, belongs to all men equally and in common, is the property for the moment of him who occupies it, but when he relinquishes the occupation, the property goes with it. Stable ownership is the gift of social law, and is given late in the progress of society. It would be curious then, if an idea, the fugitive fermentation of an individual brain, could, of natural right, be claimed in exclusive and stable property. If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the possession of every one, and the receiver cannot dispossess himself of it. Its peculiar character, too, is that no one possesses the less, because every other possesses the whole of it. He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. That ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently designed by nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their density in any point, and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being, incapable of confinement or exclusive appropriation. Inventions then cannot, in nature, be a subject of property."

-- Thomas Jefferson to Isaac McPherson, 13 Aug. 1813

Blackshire said. "Black riders are consistently being forced to ride the overcrowded buses and trains. I really think CTA sees less value on their South Side customers."

-- Kyra Kyles, 'They wouldn't dare do that on the North Side', RedEye, December 6 2006

Dear ms. Blackshire! First, please put your race card down. And now try to turn on the remainder of your brain and follow my thought. Red Line is just that: a line. Not a circle, a line. And guess what, over time, the number of trains that went one direction will ALWAYS be equal the number of trains that will then go the other way. Let me assure you, despite your paranoia that might be saying otherwise, once reaching the North End, northbound trains don't magically teleport to the South End so they could annoy you.

I would never ever agree and enforce any "age restrictions", until somebody could reasonably explain to me, what exactly kind of magic happens to a person in the very precise moment between age of 17 years 11 months 30 days 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds and age 18, yet but never earlier or later. *

Really, guys. It's the responsibility thing. I knew a 12 year old who would beat many soccer moms hands down on that, and I happen to know (sometimes a little closer than I would appreciate) a few 25+ years old people with kids who aren't quite capable of surviving on their own, let alone properly parenting the aforementioned kids.

* Nitpicker's corner: substitute 18 for 16, 21, or whatever is the legal age in your country/locality.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, and even where they had been on vacation.

Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it. In his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.

He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

"Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you," she said.
